Nimbus Architecture and Heritage delivered a new amenities building for the 800m range at the Southern Highlands Regional Shooting Complex, replacing the previous facility destroyed in the 2020 bushfires. The completed project provides a resilient, accessible and environmentally responsive facility that supports safe and ongoing community use within the Bargo State Conservation Area. The design retains the original male and female layout, upgrading each to fully accessible compartments to ensure equitable access for all users. Existing service connections were utilised to minimise ecological disturbance, while the building’s form and material palette align with the recently completed 50 m and 500 m range amenities, creating a cohesive and easily navigable precinct. Sustainability and bushfire resilience were central to the project. A solar PV system was incorporated to support lighting and power, and the building was designed in accordance with NSW RFS Planning for Bushfire Protection 2019, ensuring improved performance in a high‑risk landscape. The project also included planning allowances for the reconstruction of the fire‑damaged stop butts, contributing to the broader renewal of the complex. The result is a durable, compliant and community‑focused facility that enhances long‑term site functionality.
