Boronia Park Sporting Pavilion is part of the precinct’s upgrade project which aims to enhance opportunities and facilities for the local community. The new 400m² sporting pavilion was developed through extensive engagement with the community, special interest groups, end users and the City of Parramatta to ensure the facility aligns with local needs and broader masterplan objectives. A central focus of the project was its relationship with the surrounding remnant Cumberland Forest, with the design shaped to protect existing canopy, enhance biodiversity and strengthen the ecological function of the site. Material selections and architectural detailing – including brick corbelling, translucent sheeting and Blackbutt battens and cladding – respond to the filtered light, textures and colours of the landscape. The design was guided by a sustainable approach, incorporating natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, future solar integration and the use of low VOC, locally sourced materials to minimise ecological impact and support long term operational efficiency. Following the departure of the initial contractor, the pavilion remained partially completed for almost 12 months. Its successful delivery required coordinated effort between the City of Parramatta, Rapid and NAH to resolve inherited complexities and bring together the many disparate elements into a cohesive, resilient and environmentally responsive community asset.
