As part of a City of Parramatta North Rocks Park Precinct major upgrade, John Wearn Music Bowl is a dual entertainment and performance area. The Wally Friend Amphitheatre is nestled into the existing landscape, cradled by concentric concrete steps for seated viewing, with sheltered benches and amenities on the perimeter of the bowl. Natural materials such as timber and gently curved plywood panels nurture a sense of warmth, belonging and a stronger connection to the landscape. Through form and material choice, a gathering place is created, encouraging community interaction and connection amongst the local residents.
