As part of City of Parramatta’s major upgrade of the North Rocks Park Precinct, the John Wearn Music Bowl required the design of a renewed entertainment and performance area and its supporting amenities. Working closely with the City of Parramatta Landscape Team – who led the broader park design and procurement – we ensured the Music Bowl was fully integrated into the precinct vision and able to support a wide range of community and cultural activities. The design responds directly to place, working with the natural topography to form a terraced amphitheatre and a new stage that nestles into the landform. The organic roof form is shaped by the site’s contours, prevailing winds and solar orientation, creating a comfortable and distinctive setting for performances, festivals and community gatherings. New shelters and amenities use durable, tactile materials at the ground plane and lighter, translucent elements above, allowing filtered light to animate the spaces and enhance the visitor experience. As lead consultant, our scope included full multi-disciplinary documentation for concept design (REF), detail design (CC), and construction phases, along with coordination, quality review, risk and consultant management.
