Nimbus Architecture and Heritage was engaged as architect and lead consultant to deliver a coordinated upgrade program for the Sussex Inlet Surf Life Saving Club, supporting Council’s objective to enhance community safety, operational resilience and long‑term building performance. The project strengthened essential services, accessibility and security, ensuring the Club can continue to provide vital lifesaving and community functions. NAH undertook a detailed assessment of the existing building and designed a fully compliant fire and smoke alarm system incorporating alarms and heat detectors, interconnected to provide a common alarm to the NCC and AS 1670.1. Complementary upgrades included a compliant emergency‑lighting and exit‑sign system, BCA‑aligned stair and balustrade improvements, new exit latches, fire hose reels, portable extinguishers and redesigned solid‑core doors with closers. Security enhancements were integrated to protect equipment and improve after‑hours safety. External timber stairs and landings were replaced with durable hot‑dipped galvanised steel to reduce long‑term maintenance demands and improve accessibility. NAH also prepared essential‑services floor plans and a building‑wide evacuation procedure based on the RACE principle. All documentation was prepared for Council certification, delivering a coordinated, compliant and community‑focused outcome that strengthens the Club’s long‑term service capacity.
