Dubbo Regional Council commissioned Nimbus Architecture and Heritage to identify and develop a future cultural and community use of the building complex, cost and evaluate them, and make recommendations to Council. Alongside this master planning process NAH also developed and documented the immediate corrective conservation works and developed a scope of works including documentation to activate the site in the interim period (including sourcing and managing the heritage grant funding application process). Our work on the Wellington Old Police Station and Gaol Community Hub incorporated consultation and collaboration with diverse community and internal stakeholders, including SMA Tourism and the Dubbo Regional Council to provide community use of the building complex. The options analysis phase of works involved intensive community engagement and consultation with local and state government departments and agencies. In total, 26 separate organisations and interest groups were consulted throughout the process. Previous uses, potential uses and targeted market sectors were all considered throughout the design process to ensure that an independent, objective recommendation was achieved.
